To study the formation and occurrence of rock bursts in mining enterprises, the dynamic fracture of rock samples under uniaxial compression in laboratory conditions is examined, along with the “ejection” of the smallest rock particles, considered a “micro rock burst.” The energy mechanism underlying this phenomenon is explained. An energy equation for fracture is derived, and a criterion is proposed such that, under laboratory conditions, the ejection (dynamic fracture) of individual rock sample fragments will not occur if the criterion is satisfied. The laboratory and theoretical studies show good agreement, indicating the high reliability of the theoretical results. The paper also provides recommendations for generalizing the obtained results to actual rock bursts in mining practice.
