Integration of Renewable Energy Source Into Aging Power Grid : Operation Management and Technological Adaptation
Downloads
The integration of renewable energy sources into exiting power grids creates not only infrastructural, but also technological and operational challenges. The problem is especially serious for aging power grids that were not designed for the integration of renewable energy generation. The article analyzes the impact of renewable energy integration on grid operation, dispatching , and real-time control processes. It discusses the characteristics of inverter-based generation. The reduction of grid inertia, and the need to adapt protection and control algorithms. Special attention is giving to energy storage systems and flexible control mechanisms as important tools for increasing grid reliability. The research results clearly shows that, under the conditions of outdated power grids, effective management of renewable energy is possible only through technological adaptation.
