Abstract

The article discusses the changes in the geopolitical processes taking place in the South Caucasus region between global and regional actors. The study focuses on the analysis of the different foreign political vectors of the countries of the South Caucasus and the factors that determine their strategic choices. In this paper, particular attention is paid to such political actors as Russia, Turkey, Iran, the USA, the EU, and China.

Following the collapse of the Soviet Union and the restoration of independence, the countries of the Soviet Caucasus chose different political courses, which created a new format of competition among both regional and external actors. Georgia maintains its commitment to the course of joining the Euro-Atlantic structure, which contradicts Russian interests. Azerbaijan implements a multi-vector and pragmatic policy, thereby distancing itself from Russia and the West. Azerbaijan also strengthens its strategic partnership with Turkey and other regional actors. Armenia, which traditionally has been dependent on Russia, seeks to diversify its foreign policy and deepen relations with the West.
