The COVID-19 virus that hit the world was much more than a health crisis. In all countries affected by the virus, there was the possibility that it would cause a severe crisis in the social, economic, and political spheres and leave deep wounds. The United Nations Development Programme worked to help countries respond quickly and effectively to the challenges of COVID-19: eradicating poverty, reducing inequality, and building resilience to crises. The article discusses the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic worldwide, describes the symptoms and severity of the disease, the scale of its spread, and preventive measures. The article discusses the support of the World Health Organization and the United Nations in combating the spread of the virus. WHO has been working closely with experts, governments, and partners worldwide to work together and to monitor the spread of COVID-19, to support countries and the international community with advice and recommendations for protecting health and preventing the further spread of the virus. The article describes the stages of the spread of the virus in Georgia, the anti-crisis plans of the country's government, and all the measures it has taken to stop the virus and save the lives and health of its citizens. Georgia was the first country in the South Caucasus to confirm a case of coronavirus infection in late February 2020. But the authorities reacted quickly to the threat of the spread of the virus, ahead of many countries in introducing strict restrictions and closing air traffic. However, the number of infected people subsequently increased significantly.
