Demographic Policy and Expected Results of the South Caucasus Countries by 2050

Abstract

The paper presents demographic data on the development of the population of the South Caucasus countries over the last century, and the expected results by 2050. It reveals the historical facts and political analysis of the demographic imbalance in the region. The Caucasus region, with its distinctive civilizational identity characterized by its ethnic and religious diversity, occupies a significant place in global politics. The future political landscape of the region is closely linked to the development of demographic trends in the South Caucasus countries. The disappearance or significant weakening of any constituent national entity will radically change the political dynamics of the Caucasus, since the stability of the region and its civilizational uniqueness depend on the preservation of this diversity. Accordingly, demographic policy will play a crucial role in determining the geopolitical importance and internal balance of the region. Both local and international studies show that the historically established demographic balance in the South Caucasus has been disrupted.

Thus, the purpose of the paper is to show the dynamics of population development in the countries of the South Caucasus and to provide the expected results of expert research for the year 2050.
