Abstract

The aim of the present study is to determine the influence of parenting style on a person's self-esteem. The study was conducted using a quantitative research method. 300 subjects, aged 18 and over, participated in the study. The research tasks were theoretical analysis and empirical research of factors affecting self-esteem, based on the selection and development of methodological tools. The Rosenberg Self-Esteem Questionnaire and Parenting Style Questionnaire were used in the study.

According to the results of the study, in the case of the authoritative parenting style, adequate self-esteem exceeded 82%, while in the case of other styles, this indicator did not exceed 50%. Moreover, in the case of the indifferent parenting style, it was only 21.4%. At the same time, the authoritarian parenting style even showed better results than the indifferent parenting style. Based on the above, we can conclude that the upbringing style significantly determines the degree of formation of a person's self-esteem. For those respondents who were raised according to the authoritative and liberal parenting styles, adequate self-esteem is characteristic, while in the case of authoritarian and indifferent parenting styles, low self-esteem prevails.
