The aim of the research was to study the phytochemical properties of the leaves of Yucca elephantipes Regel, introduced to Georgia and to determine its pharmacological efficacy.
The composition of the total extract obtained from the leaves of the plant has been studied; the qualitative and quantitative content of substances using spectral analysis methods has been determined; and the pharmacological activity of the total extract has been evaluated.
In the total extract of Yucca elephantipes Regel. leaves furostanol glycosides with a content of 26.42% were determined; As a result of the study of the qualitative composition of sapogenins of leaves, the dominant genins were determined: smilagenin, tigogenin, diosgenin and gecogenin;
Antioxidant activity of the total extract obtained from Y. elephantipes leaves was studied by DPPH and ABTS reagents in vitro. According to the results of the DPPH reagent, the study object has an average antioxidant activity (56.2 ± 0.4), and according to the results of the ABTS reagent, the study object has a high antioxidant activity (6.9 ± 0.2).
