Abstract

Teaching reading at the primary level is the foundation for developing literacy, which determines the student's subsequent academic success. Reading skills include several components: phonological skills, alphabet knowledge, vocabulary, fluent reading, and reading comprehension. Two main traditional approaches are used in the teaching process: the synthetic method (from part to whole) and the analytical method (from whole to parts). However, in modern times, teachers actively use various interactive learning methods and developmental resources in teaching, which makes teaching reading at the primary level more accessible.

Modern approaches are based on constructivist principles, student-centered activities, and differentiated learning. Research shows that effective strategies include working with a variety of texts, enriching vocabulary, integrated activities, and formative assessment. Using the right methods ensures the development of not only reading techniques, but also critical and creative thinking.
