Abstract

The article deals with the interpretation of literary text title in the context of modern western narratology. Western narratologists have become interested in the phenomenon of literary text title since the 70ies of the previous century. They describe it as a more complex unit. It is considered to be not just a nucleus of a literary text and guarantee of formal-semantic unity but emphasizes its pragmatic and communicative potential. It is fundamental to point out the ability of double representativeness of titles that means double direction of it which is addressed as “mutual interaction” by Taha. It should be noted that in order to reveal informative and conceptual potential of titles, narratologists distinguish two types of linguistic phenomena: nomination and entitlement. From this point of view, it should be considered that Fisher proposes concept which identifies them in an argumentative way. In addition, Meyerovich classifies titles in accordance with their potential to create the concept of the text. They are the following: neutral tiles, associative title with weak signal and associative title with strong signal. While Taha formulates another statement in his work denoting that the title, which is finally given to the text, is the source for the interpretation of the text and the author is assumed to be its first interpreter. The title is able to unite author’s intention and view in itself. The title is highly informative part of the text. It acquires informativeness in relation to the text. Their organic relation results in the wide range of meanings of titles while literary text acquires semantic depth
