FOOD AND BEVERAGE CONSUMPTION IN THE DONETSK REGION IN THE MID 1960 - 1980s

The article is devoted to the analysis of the consumption of the main groups of food and beverages by the population of the Donetsk region in the mid-1960s - mid-1980s. The main item of expenditure in every family has always been food. The criterion for assessing the level of consumption of products and the degree of satisfaction of needs for them is scientifically based norms of calorie content of food and the components that make up its composition, the so-called physiological norms. Under the USSR, a set of these products was developed taking into account the economic conditions of production, economic and social factors that determined the characteristics of consumption in certain areas of the country. The Institute of Nutrition of the Academy of Medical Sciences of the USSR determined the physiological norms of consumption for children, adult able-bodied population and adults of incapacitated age. In general, if we trace the data presented in the material, we can state that the consumption of the main food groups - meat, milk, eggs, potatoes, vegetables, melons and bread has increased significantly over the study period. Consequently, the quality of nutrition of an ordinary inhabitant of the region improved, as evidenced by the increase in the consumption of animal products, vegetables and melons, with a systematic decrease in bread products and potatoes. The consumption of basic drinks also increased – mineral water, bread kvass, fruit drinks, beer. And this means that the well-being of the population has also increased, and people have stopped saving on food.
