OXIDATIVE METABOLISM IN RATS WITH ACUTE HEPATIC INSUFFICIENCY

Liver failure is one of the most complex and unresolved problems in modern hepatology. The study aimed to study the parameters of oxidative metabolism in rats with acute hepatic insufficiency. Acute liver failure was induced by ingestion of 20% CCL4 oily solution. At the end of the experiment (3 weeks later), liver function tests (alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), total protein, and bilirubin), antioxidant enzymes (catalase, superoxiddismutase (SOD)) nitric oxide (NO) were determined.The results of the study show that 3 weeks after the onset of CCL4-induced acute liver failure in rats, significant weight loss, liver dysfunction (increase in ALT, AST, bilirubin, total protein depletion) and oxidative stress (decreased NO content and activity of SOD and catalase).
