სწავლებისა და სწავლის პროცესი საუკუნეების განმავლობაში მიმდინარე პროცესია, იქნება ეს ფორმალურად თუ არაფორმალურად, ფიზიკურად თუ ვირტუალურად. 2020 წლის დასაწყისში მსოფლიო შეძრა გადამდები ვირუსის სწრაფმა გავრცელებამ, რომელიც ცნობილია როგორც Covid-19. რაც გავლენას ახდენს სხვადასხვა სექტორზე, ასევე განათლებაზე. ამ გარემოებებში, სწავლებისა და სწავლის პროცესი შეწყდა, როდესაც კოვიდ-19-ით დაზარალებული უმეტეს ქვეყნებში პირისპირ სწავლებიდან უეცარი გადართვა დასჭირდა.
