ანოტაცია

This article examines translation as a central practice of global communication in the age of digitalization. Starting from the premise that globalization is inconceivable without linguistic mediation, translation is understood not merely as a technique, but as a cultural and political process. Drawing on approaches from translation theory, it is shown that translation transforms meanings, negotiates cultural differences, and structures visibility.

Using institutional contexts such as supranational organizations, it becomes clear that multilingualism is intended to secure democratic legitimacy, but at the same time can reproduce existing power asymmetries. The increasing prevalence of machine translation systems is fundamentally changing the practice: While digital technologies lower communicative barriers and expand global participation, new hierarchies emerge through data-driven prioritization of certain languages and discourses.

This article argues for an understanding of translation as an ethical practice situated within the tension between efficiency and responsibility. In a networked world, the quality of linguistic mediation significantly determines how inclusive, nuanced, and equitable globa.
