The Semantic Groups of Verbal Anglicisms in Modern German and Their Georgian Equivalents

Abstract

The article examines the semantic groups of verbal Anglicisms and their Georgian equivalents. The classification of these semantic groups is based on Dolaptchieva’s model, which divides Anglicisms into specific categories. Examples are drawn from the digital Mannheim corpus, and their Georgian equivalents are analyzed. The aim of the study is to determine whether corresponding Anglicisms exist in Georgian and how these terms are adapted if no direct equivalents are available.

Furthermore, the article investigates both the morphological aspects of word formation and the semantic differences between the two languages. This analysis provides a systematic approach to better understand and correctly apply verbal Anglicisms, which will be particularly beneficial for students.

The research covers various types of Anglicisms, including: Verbs of usage; Verbs of provision with or without something: Spatial verbs; Verbs of achieving through something; Verbs of killing; Verbs of execution; Verbs of production; Verbs of giving; Verbs of causing physical change; Verbs of influence; Verbs of comparative action and imitation; Verbs of engagement in a specific profession and so on.This study contributes to fostering a deeper understanding of verbal Anglicisms and ensures their accurate usage in the Georgian language.
