Abstract

The present article examines the challenges faced by Georgian learners in acquiring English pronunciation. The study focuses on phonetic interference, particularly sound substitution, and highlights the differences between the phonetic systems of Georgian and English. segmental (sounds, phonemes) aspects are discussed, as they play a crucial role in effective communication. The paper demonstrates that discrepancies between English spelling and pronunciation, as well as inconsistencies in sound–letter correspondence, create additional difficulties for Georgian learners. The aim of the study is to analyze these challenges and to propose pedagogical approaches that support more effective and intelligible acquisition of English pronunciation.
