Abstract

The research presented in the paper is interdisciplinary in nature. The study object includes both key aspects of English grammar and modern approaches and trends in teaching grammar. The suggested ‘’Four-dimensional model of teaching English grammar’’ is based on the ‘’Three-dimensional model’’ of grammar teaching, which combines syntax, semantics and pragmatics, and is consistent with the methodological principles of communicative approach of the language teaching. The fourth dimension, which refers to the interference of the mother tongue, is interpreted in a new way when working in a monolingual group. Based on the data analysis, the effectiveness of the four-dimensional model of English language grammar is shown on the example of Georgian language learners. The conducted research approves further generalization not only in terms of teaching the grammar of English, but also other foreign languages.
