თანამედროვე ეტაპზე ტკიპისმიერი დაავადებების აქტუალობამ მნიშვნელოვნად მოიმატა მსოფლიოში, რაც გავრცელების არეალის გაფართოებით არის განპირობებული.ლაიმ-ბორელიოზი ყველაზე ხშირი ტრანსმისიული დაავადებაა ამერიკის, აზიის და ევროპის კონტინენტებზე (2). აშშ-ში ყოველწლიურად ლაიმ-ბორელიოზის 15 000, ხოლო ევროპაში 85 000 შემთხვევამდე ფიქსირდება (3). შავიზღვისპირა რეგიონში პირველი შემთხვევა 1990 წელს თურქეთში დაფიქსირდა(6).
