Abstract

Clinical experience shows that discomfort associated with the use of removable dentures and the adaptation process is not always solely related to the morphofunctional characteristics of masticatory system and the quality of dentures. Personal characteristics of the patient must also be taken into account.

At the University Dental Clinic of Tbilisi State Medical University, 64 patients (39 women, 25 men, aged 61-82) were fitted with complete removable dentures on the upper and lower jaws for the first time. On the day of receiving dental prostheses, the M. Luscher test (short version) was administered to assess the patients’ psychological state in order to determine their attitude to colors. It aimed to identify their attitudes toward colors. Our goal was to study the impact of patients’ psychological state at the time of receiving the prostheses on the adaptation process to removable dental prostheses.

The study revealed that in the case of complete edentulism, great importance is drawn to taking into account the characteristics of the patients’ personalities during the process of adaptation to complete removable dentures. M. Luscher’s color test can be used to identify patients’ personality traits and determine their psychological state, which can help predict the results of orthopedic treatment.
