Abstract
The most important influence on human health and well-being is exerted by air and the elements contained in it. Among the many factors of polluting atmospheric air there is asbestos - a natural mineral, which is widespread on all continents of the world, and is used daily in various fields of industry due to its versatile positive properties. Asbestos species differ from each other in mineral composition, physicochemical properties and biological aggressiveness. Exposure to asbestos and the risk for developing a serious health condition is dependent on the cumulative dose of exposure to asbestos, measured by the quantity of exposure and the length of time exposed. These diseases often do not present for 20 to 40 years after initial exposure and have poor prognoses. All types of asbestos are considered dangerous carcinogens and are also recognized as a cause of lethality in the development of occupational cancer. The article discusses on various diseases caused by asbestos and the real threats to health caused by asbestos both in the world and in Georgia. All types of asbestos, including chrysolite, are carcinogens. The only way to eliminate asbestosis and various asbestos-related diseases is to ban all types of asbestos.
