Abstract

Sargis Kakabadze is one of the known science, who researched Shota Rustaveli’s poem “The Knight in the Panther’s Skin”. He established the identity of the author of the poem.

Sargis Kakabadze made a specila contribution to the study and proper publication of the scribe heritage of the rustaveli era.

In particular he owns the academic publications of “The Knight in the Panther’s Skin” (1913, 1927), “Tamariani” (1937), “Abdulmesiani” (1917, 1937), “Amirandarejanaiani” (1939).

And for Rustaveli’s known international anniversary, his solid work was publishes in 1966: “Shota Rustaveli and his poem”: analysis of the poem and some issues of Georgian History” (chap. Education).

It is especially noteworthy that, together with the research of historical sources, Sargis Kakabadze  made a significant contribution to the collection and study of folk tales and other folklore sources related to the “The Knight in the Panther’s Skin” era.

It is on the basis of these sources That Sargis Kakabadze brought the  identity and origin of the author of the poem “The Knight in the Panther’s Skin” into a certain local framework of historical geography, folklore and written data and took the name of the historical village of Meskheti “Chakhrukhi” as the starting point of this localization.

Which is logically connected with Rustaveli’s father’s name – “Chakhrakha/Chakhrakheli” confirmed in local stories and most importantly, Chakhrukhadze, the famous poet of the Rustaveli era.

Unlike some scientists (Niko Marri and others), Sargis Kakabadze does not allow the identity of this two authors – Shota Rustaveli and Chakhrukhadze – but considers them to be representatives of the same family house (cousins).

The concept of Sargis Kakabadze rewuires attention primarily from the material and methodological poin of view.
