Interrelationship of Historical and Artistic Phenomenon in Polikarpe Kakabadze's Dramaturgy

Abstract

Polikarpe Kakabadze attached great importance to the knowledge of historical sources. He had the writings of almost every important historian, old or new, which were repeatedly edited by him. Polikarpe Kakabadze's library contains many such books, bearing the traces of his pencil work. He never missed any important publication, old or new, in the fields of history, literature, or theology, connected with the mediaeval world, with the establishment and spread of Christianity. All of this contributed to the systematic merging of historical reality with artistic invention in his dramaturgy. which made the issues more interesting and relevant, that are brought to the forefront in his plays. In the dramaturgy of Polikarpe Kakabadze, the tragedy of the era and the pains of modernity were revealed very expressively. Despite the fact that the conjuncture opposed him many times, despite such fierce battles, historical themes still found their way into the work of Polikarpe Kakabadze. Polikarpe Kakabadze had brilliantly studied the history of the Georgian nation, he adjusted the historical reality to the contemporary era, thus he said better and criticized the arrangements of that time.
