One More Novel about the Holocaust−John Boyne, The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas
Keywords:Holocaust, fable, novel, World War Two, tragedy
The aim of our article is a brief literary analysis of The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas (2006) by the Irish writer John Boyne. We tried to show how well the text fits in the genre of fable as the author his work himself. Also, whether this genre is a good vessel to pour there Holocaust, one of the most dreadful events of the twenetieth century. We highlighted the narration technique of the writer- retelling the story in the third person, though it is read as if it were written by Bruno, a nine-year-old protagonist as every occurance in the book is seenand felt through him. Also, we underlined the double nature of the high rank Nazi officer’s family life; one decent, ordinary side and the other non-human, those two parts devided by the wires. We showed the parallels between the present work and other fable and also between other books about friendship. For the friendship between the two boys, Bruno and Shmuel is the brightest and the most humane spot which is above all kinds of wirefences. Also, proceeding from its pure tragical notes, we compared the book with ancint Greek tragedies.
