Abstract

When a body is found in the water, the forensic medical examination should determine whether the person was drowned or the body was immersed in the water. In such cases, laboratory study methods, especially plankton detection methods, are especially important.  Within the framework of the study, water samples were collected from the Alazani River (Telavi, Gurjaani, and Lagodekhi) during four seasons (February, May, August, and November) in 2024-2025 and processed using the nitric acid method. The results revealed a clear seasonal dynamics and species variation across all sampling sites. Diatom species diversity was highest in August, particularly in Gurjaani, whereas in February their number was minimal.
