Despite the fact that in recent years much attention has been paid to the treatment of residual effects of trauma, the treatment of non-union fractures is still one of the most urgent issues in traumatology.
The high frequency of non-union fractures is due to the severity of modern technogenic injuries and the increase in the proportion of multiple and combined injuries.
The rate of healing depends on the localization, degree of displacement and type of fracture. Compressed fractures heal best. Oblique and spiral fractures heal faster than transverse ones.
The main causes of impaired reparative osteogenesis of the bone are: multiple and combined injuries, inadequate selection of treatment methods, conservative treatment errors (unstable fixation of fragments and misalignment), during surgical intervention - incorrect determination of the volume of intervention, incorrect selection of fixator and osteosynthesis, incorrect course of postoperative treatment, infection. Of the general factors, delayed fracture healing occurs in immune, endocrine and metabolic disorders, radiation sickness, severe anemia and hypoproteinemia, avitaminosis. During prolonged treatment with steroids.
Conclusion
Risk factors for non-union of long tubular bones are both treatment methods and the initial characteristics of the patient.
