Abstract

The current round of the conflict began on April 22, 2025, in Pahalgam (Indian Kashmir), where a terrorist attack took place, killing 26 people, mostly Indian tourists. The Resistance Front, an organization linked to the Pakistani group Lashkar-e-Taiba, claimed responsibility for the attack. India accused Pakistan of supporting terrorists and on May 6, 2025, launched missile strikes on nine targets in Pakistan, including parts of Muzaffarabad and Punjab. Pakistan denied the accusations, calling them unsubstantiated, and announced its readiness to retaliate, while calling for de-escalation.

Indian media and officials have stressed the need for decisive action against terrorism. Indian Defense Minister Rajnath Singh has said that Pakistan is involved in terrorist attacks in India and refuses to close militant training camps operating on its territory. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has stressed that all disputes can be resolved through bilateral talks in an atmosphere free of terror and violence.

Pakistani media and officials have been emphasizing the need for a peaceful resolution to the conflict. Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has expressed his readiness to begin talks with India on normalizing bilateral relations, stressing that war is not a means to resolve disputes between the countries. However, he also said that until India stops its actions in Kashmir, a just and lasting peace will remain elusive.
