Abstract

The article discusses the main milestones in the activities of the St. Petersburg International Commercial Bank in Northern Azerbaijan at the end of the 19th - beginning of the 20th century, in the creation and development of the banking system of the region. It is mentioned that at the end of the 19th century, a number of large Russian commercial banks were involved in the sale and purchase of shares in some of the country's oil companies, especially in Baku, before opening their branches in Azerbaijan. Petersburg International Commercial Bank, under the leadership of one of the largest Russian bankers of that time, Adolf Yulievich Rothstein, also sought to penetrate the region, relying on foreign capital, primarily on the Rothschilds.
