Abstract

Introduction: Jaw and dental anomalies rank third in prevalence among oral pathologies in children, following caries and periodontal diseases. These conditions significantly affect adolescents’ psycho-emotional status, self-esteem, and social adaptation.

Methods: The study was conducted at the pediatric dental clinic “Family Dent” in Kutaisi. A total of 125 patients aged 10–16 years were assessed using the modified Lavrentieva & Titarenko anxiety questionnaire and an anonymous self-assessment survey.

Results: Various degrees of anxiety were identified in all patients; Emotional restlessness, irritability, fear of starting new activities, and tearfulness were statistically more prevalent in girls; Self-esteem was particularly low before treatment though after the treatment, the vast majority of patients reported significantly higher self-esteem.

Conclusion: Jaw and dental anomalies cause not only esthetic and functional, but also significant psycho-social problems. The findings highlight the necessity of an interdisciplinary approach, combining orthodontic treatment with psychological support to enhance patient motivation and reduce anxiety factors.
