Some Problems of Teaching the Georgian Literacy

Abstract

The main problem arising in teaching reading /writing skills in the Georgian language includes following difficulties: students have trouble while spelling, reading or mixing up words and while combining letters to meaningful words. Although a child recognizes each letter in a word and expresses its corresponding sounds, however it is impossible for him/her to understand and interpret the reading material. Therefore, techniques for reading syllable words is targeted at preventing this difficulty. Understanding how to divide words into syllables means awareness, that each word consists of small parts. Thuse with the help of a syllabic method the pupil makes the first orientation and understanding of the word.
