Evaluation of vitamin B12 in patients with diabetes during Covid 19

Vitamin B12 deficiency is observed in almost all cases where a severe course of COVID-19 was observed: immunologically innate and adaptive, cellular and humoral responses or inflammation; microbiologically - gut microbiome; Hematologically - coagulation and endothelial cell signaling - inflammation. All of the above may, together or individually, affect the outcome or complications of the condition of the elderly and patients with diabetes with COVID-19. There is also evidence that B12 itself can inhibit Sars-Cov-2 replication. Thus, vitamin B12 deficiency is an additional risk factor for COVID-19 complications, especially in elderly patients with type 2 diabetes.
