Abstract

Thymoma is a tumor of the thymus gland, the frequency of which is 60% among all new growths of the thymus gland, and 10-25% among primary growths of the mediastinum. The share of thymus tumors among all oncological diseases ranges from 1 to 3%. The disease is common at the age of 40-60 years, it is rare in children. Up to 10 new cases of thymoma occur in Georgia every year (Gvamichava R, Shavdia Sh. 2010). The disease is characterized by local spread in neighboring organs, pericardium and pleura, cases of remote metastasis are rare, especially in the form of solitary metastasis in the liver. The article describes a clinical case observation of a patient with a survival of more than 12 years, subject to diagnosis of distant metastasis in segments 4 and 5 of the liver 7 years after surgical treatment of thymoma B2. Treatment of liver metastases consisted of three courses of chemotherapy (cisplatin 50 mg/m2; doxorubicin 50 mg/m2; during three cycles) and surgical treatment.

The probability of late metastasis places high demands on the planned regular examination of patients with a history of thymoma.
