HEPATITIS B IN GEORGIA

In recent years, Georgia has seen a decrease in the proportion of hepatitis B in the total incidence of viral hepatitis. Especially noticeable decrease distribution of acute forms of viral hepatitis. In 2016-2021, 97.3% of viral hepatitis cases were chronic hepatitis B and chronic hepatitis C. There was also a significant decrease in the incidence of acute hepatitis B. In 2011-2016, the average incidence of acute hepatitis B was 3.5 per 100,000 population. In 2016-2021, this figure decreased to 1.25.
We believe that the main reason for the significant decrease in the incidence of acute hepatitis B, along with other preventive measures, is the successful introduction of routine vaccination against hepatitis B in the country.
