Abstract

Breast cancer represents the most frequently registered cancer type in females in Georgia. The mortality from breast cancer (90%) is frequently caused by invasion and the development of distant metastasis. It is suggested that, both processes are caused by epithelial mesenchymal transition (EMT), which represents the complex process of result of the loss of cell polarity, loss of cell-cell adhesion, invasion and metastasis. In addition, it is suggested that tumor budding and tumor infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) play an important role in the progression of breast cancer. In presented critical review, we discuss the characteristics of epithelial-mesenchymal transition in different molecular subtypes of primary and metastatic invasive ductal carcinoma.
