Abstract

The purpose of the study was to study the epidemiological features of leishmaniasis in Georgia and Tbilisi. In recent years, the decrease in incidence in age category < 15 should be due to increased awareness of parents about the disease and preventive measures, but the increase in incidence in age category 60 and above is presumably due to the advantage of a healthy lifestyle in the elderly populace, in particular walking in forest parks.

The highest rate was noted in the areas of Old Tbilisi (10.19) and Vake-Saburtalo (8.79), which border the Mtatsminda forest, where leishmaniasis vectors are abundant, and rodent burrows are located, which contributes to an increase in the incidence in this region.

The different seasonality of leishmaniasis is associated with a wide range of the incubation period of the disease, therefore its detection occurs at different times of the year.
